Science of Sleep

Saw Science of Sleep on Sunday. As I was watching the film I was so glad I didn’t have the job of formally reviewing it. Eternal Sunshine is one of my favourite films and I was hoping for a similar experience but this, though a fun and challenging time, wasn’t quite as coherent. It is certainly has some great dream sequences. I like dreams on film….ala Lynch or Bunuel. There is one incredibly tender moment where Gael Garcia Bernal dressed in a fuzzy open faced bear costume is playing drums in a band, serenading the woman he’s in love with. Has to be seen to be believed. But all in all, go see it.

Friend and I used to both work at the Princess years ago, but at different times, so it was kind of a class reunion for us, and we had some people that overlapped with us, in common to remember. Ended up talking long about dreams over a few Laphroaigs in the Savoy after, bad bad dj murdling the air with lack of talent. Thank god, after, we were able to rinse out our ears and brains with Thom Yorke’s Eraser.

Have to go on a dj rant one of these days…probably along the lines of “those who can’t do, play” or “hey, look at me, I know how to play music, sort of like you, but in public”…I wouldn’t mind them so much except that they generally play such a load of shit….there is actually extremely danceable stuff that is also good music..wouldn’t hurt to throw on a 9 inch nails or even metric once in a while. It could be that the job comes with a bin of someone’s relative’s music that you are union bound to play…I don’t know; just don’t know what could explain the dearth of any brains so much of the time…so I guess a bit of the rant is out then.
