Muse

Quick note about Muse. One of those bands where you hear one cut and yout think ‘cool. I should get that.” And you do, and after a listen or two, you kind of wish you hadn’t. But there is a pleasure to be had from this band. Its the pleasure you get from trying to name the influences on each cut. They are pretty good musicians and I thought for a while that if I didn’t know about Radiohead I would like them more. Then I thought they were kind of like if Radiohead were not quite as good as they were and also were a straight ahead rocknroll band rather than the progrock outfit they are. But it is fun disecting the cuts. One sounds like Thom Yorke cowriting with Aha with a couple of comments from ELO, another like Yorke stuck in a room with Rachmaninoff and yet another like U2 from Achtung Baby. Despite the derivitiveness rampant I am interested in what the follow up will sound like.
