The horror, the horror

Though I much prefer trumpeting great new sounds to excoriating bad bad music I just have to rant about some very flushable tunes (or tunesmiths). First of all, why is everyone so high on Joanna Newsome. To me, she sounds like the reincarnation of Shirley Temple. Need I expand? I think not. And if that isn’t enough, my favourite station KCRW keeps playing Johnny Cash and June Carter’s rendition of It Ain’t Me Babe. If I didn’t know better I would’ve thought this was a parody. It is so so so fucking bad. I just think that Johnny should not sing; just like Willie Nelson should stick to writing and be banned from recording. I liked Cash’s Hurt; it is stunning but usually he sounds like a slightly upscale Stompin Tom.

Next time, I’ll talk about music I like (I hope).

  1. Paul, I fucking despise and do not GET Joanna Newsome. What the crap is that crappy crap.

I also started a club called “I Don’t Like the Arcade Fire”. You’d be amazed by how many people want to join this club when I tell them about it. We don’t hold regular meetings or anything, we just disperse throughout this fine city, disliking the Arcade Fire in our own dispassionate way.

  2. Yes, Ms. Newsome should die or at the very least share a cell with Ms. Hilton. But I have to part ways with you regarding Arcade Fire. Am a fan I’m afraid. Saw them at Red’s after Funeral and I couldn’t help but be taken by their Brechtian verging on Dadaist clamour. Not to mention I have always been partial to Roy Orbison and they have a couple of tunes off Funeral that have the same kind of structure that he used (also why I like a couple of Chris Isaak tunes). Its not as though I listen to them a lot right now but I will be buying the next one too.
I know what you mean about the “I don’t” clubs and sudden converts. I started 2 that had people joining..”I don’t like The English Patient” (the book; have not bothered with the movie) and “I don’t like Life of Pi”.
