Just got back from Liverpool.
What a remarkable city. Having only around 400,000 inhabitants so much smaller than my home town but much more of a sense of a real city. Grand wide car free streets running down from the hills to the Mersey; a collage of amazing buildings both very old and very new; and seaside not far away.
Though my first night and therefore impression of the city was overwhelmingly negative, the early morning amble the next day set me right, and now I would go back.
The oddest thing I noticed, other than the average food providing a good example of the old English cliche of bad, and the beer not so good (which surprised me), was the utter whiteness of the place. Edmonton is quite multicultural and it feels odd to be in a place with more than three people where all three are white.
